Margaret Levi, leader of the Center’s Creating a New Moral Political Economy program, and 2022–23 CASBS fellow Henry Farrell guest edit the Winter 2023 issue of Dædalus, the journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The entire issue is open access.
The issue features eleven lead essays, each accompanied by two shorter response essays, written by a cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral selection of scholars and thought leaders affiliated with the CASBS program. View the list of contributors on the image above.
Like the CASBS program inspiring them, the essays focus on questions, identify obstacles, and advance roadmaps for establishing a fairer and more inclusive political economic framework, one that can enable the emergence of a revised form of capitalist democracy.
In an essay introducing the issue, Levi and CASBS program director Zachary Ugolnik emphasize the scaling of prosocial behavior beyond small group boundaries to a realm of actions motivating an expanded community of solidarity with shared interests and destinies. It’s an idea that informs the entire CASBS program — an idea that can inform larger political economy governance arrangements that ensure greater and more sustainable human flourishing.
